Boys Tennis Finishes Best Ever 2nd Place in LVC Regular Season -
3.0 years ago

The South Lyon East Boys Tennis Team has had an excellent last week of the conference tennis season.  The team went 3-1 over the stretch, dropping their only in-conference match of the year to Lakeland 7-2, but rebounding with wins over Walled lake Western 9-0, Waterford United 9-0 and Walled Lake Central 6-3.

The Cougars finished the year with their best ever 6-1 conference record and a 2nd place overall regular season.  On their way to this result they also piled up a few team firsts:  First ever wins against perennial power houses Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Northern.  They also had an all-time best record of 15-2 for a record setting .882 winning percentage.  The team also picked up a best-ever 5 seeded flights in the upcoming LVC tournament.

This has been a tremendous year so far for the Cougars.  Coach Clark said, "I am particularly impressed with this team's togetherness.  Watching them 'do the wave' and several other cheers in unison for their teammates is one of the funnest times I've ever had being around tennis.  I'm really proud of the perseverance, integrity and enthusiasm that each individual player has shown this year."  Coach Clark also wanted to call out a few individuals for their outstanding character.  Cameron Crosby, for being the rock at the top of the order that all other players look to in setting the tennis standard.  Ben King for his outstanding commitment to improve this year.  Mason Long for his intensity and drive.  Trevor Perl & Ethan Rude for helping keep Mason's intensity focused and on track.  Aarav Contractor and Anish Rao for their 'Team First' attitudes.  Connor Christensen for his always being willing to help any player or coach.  Danny Stack for being a natural leader.  Brayden Erwin for his commitment to improve his game throughout the season.  Nick Groene for "bringing it" to matches and practices alike.  Ashwanth Vijayan for his even temperament.  Martin Bande for his ability to assimilate.  Dylan Zischerk, who never saw a shot he didn't want to hit 100 MPH+.  Dev Nimmala for his outstanding mask fashion.  Krish Venkatachalam for making the varsity transition smoothly and finally for James Witkowski for his 'Break It Down' abilities!

The team looks to take the LVC Crown this Saturday at the annual Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.  Play starts this Saturday at 9:00 AM.  Matches will be held at Lakeland, Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Northern.  Come out and cheer on your record setting Cougars!
