The South Lyon East Boys Tennis Team continued their winning ways on Thursday with a sound 8 matches to 1 thumping of their crosstown rival South Lyon.  The East doubles teams continued their undefeated streak in the Lakes Valley Conference going a perfect 5-0.  Leading it off was the first doubles pairing of Aarav Contractor & Connor Christensen.  This team outlasted their opponents winning in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.  Coach Clark, the first year coach of South Lyon East, said that "It's a huge luxury to have players at 1 doubles that would almost certainly be playing singles on most teams."  The second doubles team of Mason Long and Trevor Perl won a hard fought first set, 7-6 (7-1) and then pulled away in the second set 6-2.  At third doubles Nick Groene & Ashwanth Vijayan easily overcame their opponents 6-2, 6-2.  Coach Clark noted, "It's amazing to have solid senior leadership in the middle of the lineup.  Their drive to win and persevere is outstanding."  Newly promoted fourth doubles featured the team of exchange student Martin Bande and sophomore Dylan Zischerk.  This team had to go the distance, but finally overcame their rivals 6-2, 6-7 (7-3), 6-2.  Rounding out the doubles play, James Witkowski and Krish Venkatachalam hung on to a nail biter 6-1, 4-6, 10-6.  Coach Clark was gushing about the players at the bottom of the order, "Dylan, Krish & James have improved fantastically.  All three played on the JV squad last year and have really had a drive to improve.  The addition of Martin into this group has really made them quite formidable."

In the singles matches, East again got dominating performance out of their top players.  Number 1 singles player Cameron Crosby was highly focused in a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of his counterpart.  Number 2 singles, Daniel Stack, was similarly in command of his match, winning 6-1, 6-0.  Coach Clark said, "it's amazing to have such great young men at the top of our lineup.  Danny & Cameron are two of the most competitive players I've ever met."  In a tremendously hard-fought match, Benjamin King came up just short in his number 3 singles match, 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 3-6.  This was one of the matches where both players fought to the end, but the South Lyon player had just a little bit more, at the end of the day.  Rounding out the day, freshman Brayden Erwin played an outstanding match, beating his opponent soundly, 6-2, 6-3.  Both of these matches were thoroughly entertaining and the crowd was engrossed in each and every point.

East also took victories in two exhibition matches.  Dev Nimmala and Ethan Rude defeated their opponents 8-3 and Annish Rao, in an atypical singles match, similarly dominated his opponent 8-3.

All-in-all it was a fantastic day for the Cougar netters.  The team looks to continue their winning ways next Thursday, Sept. 9th in a home match against Walled Lake Northern.  The match will take place at the South Lyon East courts at 3:30 PM.
