6.0 years ago

There was a lot of excitement in Cougar Stadium Monday night as the South Lyon East Soccer teams faced off against the Trojans of Clarenceville. Coming into the match, the Varsity squad was looking for that coveted first win of the season. The Cougars came out strong, scoring within the first ten minutes of the match. Junior Isaac Shiner started off a 3 goal spree for East, finding the back of  the net at 31:29 with an assist from Junior Collin Boulard. Just 2 minutes later, Boulard scored for the Cougars with an assist from Shiner. At 28:37, Sophomore Leo Ifuku was taken down in the box, giving the Cougars a penalty shot opportunity. Shiner took the shot for East and earned his second goal of the game. The Cougars went into the intermission with a 3-0 lead over the Trojans. The second half played out similarly to the first. The Cougars continued to dominate with great defensive efforts by the team and great ball movement offensively. At 29:33, Shiner took a free kick for the Cougars striking the ball past the Trojans Goalie, giving him a hat trick for the night. About 90 seconds later, Senior Captain Zach Hemker received a corner kick from Shiner, and scored off a beauty of a header (pictured above). The Cougars weren't done yet, at 23:39 Junior Alex Neville landed his first goal of the season, giving the Cougars a 6 goal lead. This is the first win for the Cougars this season, and the first win for Coach Pete Stoyanovich. It is also the first shut out for Junior Goalie, Dawson Shifferd. The Cougars improve their record to 1-2 overall. Final Score: East 6, Clarenceville - 0

In JV action, the Cougars entered the match hoping to remain undefeated on the season. It was a slow start for the Cougars as they were unable to score in the first half. But in the second half, they came out firing. The first to strike for the Cougars was Freshman Drew Neville finding his way through the Trojan defense and getting the ball past their goalie. Next, Sophomore Ayden Rodriguez scored off of a free kick made by Sophomore John Crapps. And for the Cougars final goal of the match, Sophomore Connor Karfis scored off his own corner kick. The Cougars defense and goalies held their line leaving the Trojans scoreless. The JV squad are 2-1-0 on the season. Final Score: East: 3, Clarenceville: 0

The Cougars host the Captains of Waterford Mott on Thursday, August 20. JV kicks off at 5:30, followed by Varsity at 7:00pm.

Go Cougars! Be East!
