Cougars Defense Shine in Battle against Waterford Kettering
Cougar Tristan Nagel - #27 lands header goal while Cougar Zach Hemker - #18 provides support

On Thursday evening, the South Lyon East Cougars hit the road to take on the Captains of Waterford Kettering. The Cougars rose to the challenge of this game being their fourth game in six days. It was a game where the Cougars defense shined. They took the field and controlled much of the first half. Midway through the half, Junior Colin Boulard took a free kick for the Cougars. His shot was placed perfectly for Senior Captain and defensemen Tristan Nagel (#27 pictured above) to land a header goal for East, his first goal of the season.  The Cougars allowed few shots from Kettering, but the Captains were able to slip one past with 1:15 left in the first half putting the score 1-1 heading into the intermission. In the second half, much of the game took place in the midfield with both teams struggling to find opportunities to score. At the 22:54 mark, the Captains were charged with a hand ball in the box violation giving the Cougars a penalty kick opportunity. It was Senior Captain and defensemen Zach Hemker (#18 pictured above) to stepped up to the line for the Cougars. His low shot found its way past the Captains goalie into the back of the net, giving the Cougars the go ahead goal. The Cougars were able to hold on to their lead, bringing home a much needed Lake Valley Conference win. The Cougars improve their LVC record to 2-1-1 and overall record to 3-4-2. Final Score: East 2, Kettering 1

The JV squad was dominate over the Captains, scoring 6 goals in the first half… with 4 goals within 5 minutes! Cougars first half goal scorers were Freshman Drew Neville, Sophomore Ayden Rodriguez, Sophomore Connor Karfis, Sophomore Maxim Wyrwa, Junior Maan Patel, and Freshman Barghav Patel. In the second half, the Cougars slowed things down but scored one final goal by Sophomore Jake Bogard. Final Score: East 7, Kettering 0
