South Lyon East soccer hit the field last night in their season opener in Cougar Stadium against the Warriors of Walled Lake Western. Not only was this the first game of the season for the team, but it was also the debut for the Cougars new Varsity Head Coach, Pete Stoyanovich. Coach Stoyanovich was proud of how the team performed in the opener and is excited to see what the season will bring. 

The Cougars, led by team captains, Senior David Crapps, Senior Tristan Nagel and Senior Zach Hemker, took the field, ready to battle. The Warriors were the first to put a goal on the scoreboard finding a way to get past the Cougars defense and goalie, Junior Dawson Shifferd.  Before the halftime break, the Warriors scored again putting them with a two goal lead at the half. The Cougars were not ready to give up and came out much stronger in the second half.  The team had many more scoring opportunities but they were only able to find the back of the one time. Junior Isaac Shiner scored for the Cougars off of a beauty of a pass from David Crapps with 2:15 left in the game. Varsity Final score: East: 1, WLW: 3

In JV action, the Cougars kicked off their season with an exciting 2-2 tie against the Warriors. Sophomore Connor Karfis got the first goal of the season for the JV Cougars. Then in the second half Freshman Ayden Rodriguez added to the total for the Cougars. JV Final Score: East:2, WLW: 2

The Cougars head to Pinckney on Friday, August 24 to take on the Pirates of Pinckney High School. Varsity takes the field at 3:45pm, followed by the JV match kicking off at 5:15pm.
