Tuesday night the South Lyon East Cougars hosted the Captains of Waterford Kettering in round two of the Lakes Valley Conference tournament. The Cougars have been struggling with landing goals in their recent matches, but that all changed tonight. Dominating the first half, East took an early 2 goal lead scoring both within the first 10 minutes of the game. They netted another 3 goals before the end of the first half while keeping the Captains scoreless. Kettering came into the second half firing, scoring 2 quick goals in the opening minutes of the half. The Cougars found the back of the net one more time before the end of the match. Junior Isaac Shiner landed a hat trick with 3 goals on the night, Junior Alex Neville, Senior Captain Zach Hemker and Junior Colin Boulard each netted goals for the Cougars. Final Score: East 6, Kettering 2

The Cougars JV soccer team closed out their season with a big 7-1 win over Kettering. While the team started out slow, they pulled their game together quickly and dominated throughout the remainder of the match up. Sophomore Ayden Rodriguez scored 2 goals, with Freshmen Ben Aulicino, Sophomore Jacob Benjamin, Sophomore Connor Karfis, Sophomore Maxim Wywra and Freshman Nino Gunnells each getting 1 goal each for East. The JV squad end their season with an impressive 9-4-3 overall record. Congratulations Coach John Alonzo and team on a great season!

Next week the Cougars head into the MHSAA District Tournament. The Cougars will host Dexter Dreadnaughts on Tuesday, October 16. The varsity match up will kick off at 6:00pm in Cougar Stadium. Admission for Districts games is $6 per person.
