Cougars and Warriors Play in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Tuesday night the South Lyon East Cougar soccer team traveled to Walled Lake Western. This game was Western’s annual Warriors for Warriors Pink Out game in honor of breast cancer awareness. At half time, the two teams (pictured above) came together in a circle of unity as the names were read of those who we’ve have lost, are still fighting and the survivors of cancer.   The Cougars were honored to be included in this great event.

This was the second meeting for these two teams this season. In their first meeting, the Warriors took home the 3-1 win. The Cougars left that game eager for the rematch. The two teams took the field and the battle began immediately, with much of the match happening in the middle of the field leaving little opportunity for scoring chances. It wasn't until midway through the first half that Senior Captain Zach Hemker launched a cross pass to Junior Isaac Shiner setting him up for the Cougars first goal of the night. Later in the half, in a battle in front of the net, the Warriors were able to add a goal of their own. The teams went into the half time break tied with one goal apiece. The second half was much like the first. Though the Cougars netted their second goal 10 minutes into half when Senior Grayson Davies fed Shiner the through ball allowing him to use his speed to get by the Warriors defense to put the ball in the net. Soon after the Warriors were able to get the equalizer, putting the score at 2-2. The Cougars defense held strong allowing limiting scoring opportunities and holding the Warriors to only 2 goals in the match. Final Score: East 2, Walled Lake Western 2

In JV action, the Cougars also put up a 2-2 tie against the Warriors. Both of East’s goals were scored in the first half. Sophomore Quinn McGill netted the first goal for the Cougars with an assist from Freshman Ben Aulicino. Sophomore Ayden Rodriguez landed the Cougars second goal with a break away. Final Score: East 2, Walled Lake Western 2

The Cougars are back on the road on Thursday night as they head to Waterford to take on the Captains of Kettering. JV action begins at 5:30pm, followed by Varsity at 7:00pm.
