Down their number 1, 2, and 4 runners, East's Girls Cross Country Team's freshmen stepped up and showed off the team's depth as they recorded their first win of the season against Walled Lake Western 27-30. Morgan Aittama led the way for the Cougars finishing 3rd against the Warriors in 21:48 on a wet, sloppy course at Lakeland High School. Alaina Rider was 4th in 22:18, Ella Stajdl was 5th in 23:36 and Jenny Hartman 6th in 23:45. Freshman Lia Smith rounded out the scoring in 9th place in 24:44. Freshman Emily Woodyard and Junior Reeves Housman helped secure the win by finishing in 10th and 11th places respectively to displace Western's 5th runner.

In the other race of the day, Lakeland, led by #4 runner in Division 1 Madeline Rehm (18:46), defeated the Cougars 17-44
