Cougar Soccer Heads to District Semi-Finals

Tuesday evening the South Lyon East Soccer team traveled down to Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti to take on the Railsplitters in the first round of the MHSAA Division 2 District 20 playoffs. The two teams faced off at 5:00pm. Lincoln was able to put a point on the board early with a free kick that flew past the Cougar defense and goalkeeper. Soon after, Freshman Leo Ifuku tied up the game with his first high school career goal. The Cougars kept the shots firing but went into to half time tied 1-1. With the wind in the favor in the second half, East came out strong looking to take the lead. They put three additional scores up within 5 minutes. At the 28:03 minute mark, Sophomore Peyton Dock put the Cougars up by a goal after scoring off a pass from Junior Grayson Davies. Within minutes East found the back of the net again, when Senior Ray Ifuku (pictured above) scored off a throw in made by Senior Captain Josh Ohland. East's last goal was unassisted by Ohland at 23:24. The Cougar defense and goal keeper remained solid throughout the game, holding the Railsplitters to 1 goal in the match. Final Score: East 4, Lincoln 1

With the win, the Cougars head to Tecumseh (14-3-1) for the district semi-final game on Thursday, October 19. These two teams face off at 4:30pm at Tecumseh High School.
